Human Rights and Anti-trafficking Expert

Isabella Orfano has long-standing experience in research; policy development; networking and advocacy; planning and management of local, national, European, and international programs and projects on anti-trafficking, migration, gender, and LGBTQ-related issues, with the goal of protecting the human rights of vulnerable groups and improving institutional and non-governmental responses. She has worked for several NGOs (inter alia, On the Road and Diversity); international organizations (EU, OSCE,UNODC, ICMPD); governments, and local authorities (Municipalities of Rome and Bologna). She has carried out field work and projects in Italy, several EU and SEE countries, Nigeria, Kenya, and Brazil. She has been a member of the European Commission’s Experts Group on Trafficking in Human Beings (2003-2007). She has published and edited several books, reports and articles on human trafficking related-issues. She holds a M.St. in International Protection of Human Rights (Sapienza University of Rome), an M.A. in American Studies (New York University), a post-grad diploma in Gender Studies (International Women’s University), and a B.A. in Modern History (University of Bologna).
